1990 Ertl Company : DC Comics Super Heroes Collector Cards
The Ertl Company released a series of ten toy figures for the
DC Comics Super Heroes brand in 1990. Each figure includes a collector
card that depicts a classic DC comic book cover. Each oversized card measures
approximately 2.75 x 3.75 inches. The cards are attached to the toy packages
with cellophane tape. The back of each card contains a synopsis of the
featured issue.
The Ertl collection includes two Superman figures and two
Action Comics cover cards. The cover of Action Comics #485 (July
1978) was penciled and inked by Neal Adams.
The cover of Action Comics #643 (July 1989) was penciled and inked by
George Pérez and lettered by Todd Klein. The image is a tribute to the cover
of Superman #1 (Summer 1939). The original cover was illustrated by Leo
O'Mealia and
Joe Shuster. The
image is based on the opening panel of Action Comics #10 (March 1939)
by Joe Shuster and Wayne Boring.
