Winning Moves : Top Trumps
Winning Moves UK Ltd. has released several DC Comics themed decks for the
Top Trumps series of card games. The cards each measure 63 x 100 mm.
Series 1 of Top Trumps Specials: DC Super Heroes was released in 2005. The 30-card deck was distributed in the UK, Germany, and Spain. The Series 1 German release includes four "Super Top Trumps" cards.
Series 2 was released in 2006. The second series is comprised of 30 game cards
and one title card. Clark Kent is included as a "Super Top Trumps" card in the
German Series 2 release. The Series 1 and Series 2 game cards were illustrated
by Ariel Olivetti.
DC Comics Mini series was released in 2012. The set contains 19 mini-cards reprinted from Series 1. DC Universe Heroes and Villains set was released in 2012. This release is an abridged reboot of Series 1 and 2. DC Comics Who's The... Strongest? is another 2012 release that reprints select cards from Series 1.
The Justice League series was released in North America on September 2,
2020. The Superman image in Justice League was penciled by José Luis
García-López and inked by Brett Breeding.
Top Trumps Turbo: All Stars is an electronic board game version that
was released in October 2013. The game originally retailed for £24.99. There
are six different themed decks included. Brandon Routh appears from
Superman Returns in the 2021 Movie Heroes deck.
How to Play Top Trumps
Any number of people can play. Shuffle and deal all the cards face down.
Each player holds their cards, face up, in the palm of their hand. Players
can only look at their top card.
The player to the dealer's left starts by reading about an item from the top
cards (eg, Fighting Skills 87). The other players then read out the same
item. The one with the best or highest value wins and places all the top
cards including their own to the bottom of their pile. It is then their turn
again to choose an item from the next card.
If 2 or more cards share the top value or no data is available for that
particular subject then all the cards are placed in the middle and the same
player chooses again from the next card. The winner of the hand takes the
cards in the middle as well. The person with all the cards at the end is the
winner.
