1958 Snap Card Products Ltd. : ATV Stars Series No. 1
The first series of ATV Stars was released in late 1958 by Snap Card Products Ltd. of
London, England. The 50-card collection of film and television
personalities was randomly dispensed from vending machines in England. The Associated TeleVision (ATV) promotional images also appear on Kane's ATV Pocket Pack card panels from Kane Products Ltd.
ATV Stars measure approximately 2.625 x 3.625 inches, slightly larger than a standard trading card. An ATV Stars collector
album was sold separately by mail order for three shillings and six pence. A second series
of ATV Stars featuring different celebrities was released in 1960.
Card No. 4 features an image of George Reeves in an iconic pose from
The Adventures of Superman
television show. The series aired for six seasons from 1952–1958, and began syndication in 1965. A series of Superman Trading Cards was released by Topps Chewing Gum from 1965–1966.
Desi Arnaz is misspelled as "Arnez" on card #15. No card was distributed for #33. Two different cards are printed as #34.
