1992–1993 Eclipse Enterprises : Famous Comic Book Creators
In 1992 and 1993, Eclipse Enterprises released a trading card series that
honored figures in the comic book industry. The
Famous Comic Book Creators Trading Cards series features artists,
writers, and editors from over 50 years of publishing. The package design and
art is by Larry Marder. The card text was written by David Allen. Color photo
retouching was done by Ed Rachles.
The First Series is comprised of 110 cards. Each box contains 26 packs with 12 cards per pack. The series was followed by a 1993 expansion update
of 36 additional creators. The card backs contain selected credits and a brief biography for
each person.
Superman creators showcased include Al Williamson, Bill Finger,
Curt Swan,
George Pérez, Jack Kirby, Julius Schwartz, Kerry Gammill, Kurt
Schaffenberger, Murphy Anderson, Sheldon Moldoff, and Wayne Boring.
Both series include yellow or blue back variations. The less common
blue-back promos were sent to creators and distributed as contest prizes. A
custom imprinted vinyl three-ring binder was sold through mail for $6.95.
Complete factory sets and uncut sheets were issued by Eclipse Enterprises. A
fold-out promo brochure contains two uncut samples of the George Pérez and
Sergio Aragones cards.
The 1992 First Series is comprised of 110 cards. The 1993 Update expansion
contains 36 cards.
