1992–1993 Eclipse Enterprises : Famous Comic Book Creators
Eclipse Enterprises released the "Official First Series!" of Famous Comic Book Creators trading cards in 1992. The
Famous Comic Book Creators Trading Cards series features artists,
writers, and editors from over 50 years of publishing. The package design and wrapper art is by Larry Marder. The card text was written by David Allen. Color photo
retouching was done by Ed Rachles.
The "Official First Series1" is comprised of 110 cards. Each box contains 26 packs with 12 cards per pack. The collection was followed by a 1993 expansion update
of 36 additional comic book creators. The card backs contain selected credits and a biography for
each person.
The Superman creators showcased include Al Williamson, Bill Finger,
Curt Swan,
George Pérez, Jack Kirby, Julius Schwartz, Kerry Gammill, Kurt Schaffenberger, Murphy Anderson, Sheldon Moldoff, and Wayne Boring.
Both series include common yellow back base cards or blue-back promo variations. Blue-back promos were sent to creators, dealers, and distributed as contest prizes. Many blue-backed promo cards have been signed by their respective creator.
A
custom imprinted vinyl three-ring binder was sold by mail order for $6.95.
Complete factory sets and uncut sheets were issued by Eclipse Enterprises. A
fold-out promo brochure contains two uncut samples of the George Pérez and
Sergio Aragones cards.
The 1992 First Series is comprised of 110 cards. The 1993 Update expansion
contains 36 cards.
