McFarlane Toys : DC Multiverse Data File Cards


In January 2020, McFarlane Toys released the first series of 7-inch action figures and trading cards for the DC Multiverse line. Each DC Multiverse action figure is packaged with a "Data File" collector card.

Two cards for Superman in Action Comics #1000 have been issued. The first card from January 2020 reprints the newsstand cover penciled by Jim Lee, inked by Scott Williams, and colored by Alex Sinclair. The second Action Comics #1000 card released in March 2021 depicts a photograph of the posed figure. The photograph card was also included with the Superman vs. Devastator Multipack.

Henry Cavill appears as Superman on two different cards from Zack Snyder's Justice League. A color photo card is included with black-suited figures. A black-and-white photo variation is packaged with blue-suited figures sold exclusively at Target stores.

The Bizarro card features artwork from Superman vol. 4, #42. The Bizarro image was penciled and inked by Patrick Gleason and colored by John Kalisz.
2021 McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse - Bizarro: DC Rebirth
The Superman card from "The Infected" storyline uses artwork from Batman/Superman vol. 2, #2, published in 2019. The issue was penciled and inked by David Marquez and colored by Alejandro Sánchez.
2020 McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse - Superman: The Infected
The Superman: Red Son figure is a repainted version of the Action Comics #1000 model. The card reprints the cover artwork of Superman: Red Son #1 by Dave Johnson.
2021 McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse - Superman: Red Son
Superman appears in a samurai-inspired suit of armor from Superman Unchained #7. The issue was penciled by Jim Lee, inked by Scott Williams, and colored by Alex Sinclair.
2020 McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse - Superman: Unchained Armor
In 2021, a limited "Energized" version of the Superman Unchained armor was released as part of the McFarlane Toys Gold Label Collection. The "Energized" variant was sold exclusively in Walmart stores. The card depicts a photo of the model.

A photo of a posed Superman figure appears on the Dark Nights: Death Metal card. The Elseworlds Superman was designed by artist Greg Capullo.
2021 McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse - Superman: Dark Knights: Death Metal
The Superman: DC Rebirth figure is a repaint of the Bizarro: DC Rebirth model with an alternate head and chest plate. A Platinum Edition chase was released in March 2022. The unpainted Platinum Edition includes a variant Artist Proof card with a black-and-white photograph of the model sculpt.
2021 McFarlane Toys: DC Multiverse - Superman: DC Rebirth
Superman from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns was modeled after Frank Miller's artwork from the 1986 miniseries. The Superman vs Armored Batman Multipack was released in March 2022. The set includes Superman from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns and a variant photograph card of the figure.
2021 McFarlane Toys: DC Multiverse - Superman: The Dark Knight Returns
A figure depicting Superman in a black solar suit was released in April 2022. The figure is a repaint of the Superman: DC Rebirth model with an alternate head and chest plate. This version of the black suit debuted in Superman: Lois and Clark #1, published in 2015.
2022 McFarlane Toys DC Multiverse - Superman: Lois & Clark
Black Lantern Superman was released in July 2022. The card reprints the cover of Blackest Night: Superman #1 (October 2009) penciled by Shane Davis, inked by Sandra Hope, and colored by Alex Sinclair. The same image has appeared on trading cards issued by Cryptozoic and HRO.

A Superman figure for the Future State: Worlds of War storyline was released on August 5, 2022. The model is based on the 2021 Warworld gladiator design by artist Mikel Janín.

Superman Jon Kent: DC Future State was released on July 22, 2022. The figure includes the first appearance of Jon Kent on a trading card. The Future State version of Jon debuted in Dark Nights: Death Metal #7 (March 2021).

Pre-orders for the Gold Label Collection Superman: Hush figure were announced on September 1, 2022. The series is scheduled to ship in October 2022. The Superman figure includes Kryptonite infused poison ivy and interchangeable hands. The card reprints artwork from Batman #612 (April 2003) penciled by Jim Lee, inked by Scott Williams, and colored by Alex Sinclair.

The DC Multiverse toy license was previously held by Mattel from 2015 to 2019. CEO Todd McFarlane announced the deal in a press release dated February 12, 2019. Todd has been featured on trading cards released by TriStar Productions and Eclipse Enterprises.

Card production has been inconsistent and the thickness of each card may vary. Cards may have different types of perforation. Some examples contain rounded corners and others are more squared.
