1994 SkyBox Master Series : DC Comics Edition

1994 SkyBox Master Series: DC Comics Edition

The SkyBox Master Series: DC Comics Edition was released on June 22, 1994. The series is the first fully-painted collection to showcase DC heroes and villains. Each box contains 36 packs with 6 cards per pack. Packs originally retailed for $1.49 each. SkyBox International produced 10,000 individually numbered cases, each containing 20 boxes.

Each card features original painted artwork created exclusively for this series. Many illustrations were later used in the 1995 DC Comics Pepsi Cards collection released in Mexico. The base cards are UV coated and stamped with gold-colored foil. Each case includes an uncut four-panel sheet of foil inserts S1–S4. The odds of finding one of four foil inserts are 1:18 packs.

Superman headlines the base set on card #1. The painting by John Estes was reprinted in the DC Comics Pepsi Cards series.

Superman and Doomsday are featured on a "Double-Sided Spectra" insert. The odds of finding one of the six etched-foil cards are approximately 1:36 packs. The Superman and Doomsday images were painted by Tom Fleming. Both paintings were reprinted in the DC Comics Pepsi Cards series.

Six different promo cards were distributed through dealers, magazines, and comic conventions. Four-panel 8 x 10 inch promo sheets were issued with white borders, or blue borders numbered to 1,000. Uncut sheets and test proofs were released to the public by Fleer/SkyBox International.
